Cali College Chances??

Here’s my profile:
I have a cumulative 4.2 GPA 4.4 UC

I have will have taken 8 AP courses by the end of my senior year. My SAT score was a totalled 1810 with 580 critical reading 590 math and 640 writing. And an ACT score of 28.

I’m involved in my class of 2014 club, interact (community service club), and CSF life member club. Plus I have been acknowledged as a G.A.T.E. student. Also I have done History Day.

I have actively participated in the leadership class for 3 years with both school and community service. I will also be the senior class Senator of my graduating class.

I’ve received Block C Academic Achievement, Principal’s and high honor roll, and Outstanding Achievement.

I played violin and Viola for 3 years (I was first chair my last year) and participated in cheer through school from 5-7th and then 10th grade where I was captain; I also had dance outside for 2 years.

I’ve held 3 different jobs, 1 consecutively for 3 summers and will also hopefully be volunteering at a local hospital this summer.

I was awarded a position at the leadership program HOBY my sophomore year and Girl’s State (where I was the mayor) my junior year.

I also hope to be a part of National Honor Society, Advanced Scholars of Distinction, and more.

I am interested and open to UC’s and private universities in California and hope to attend medical school. What do you believe my chances are for specific schools like: UCLA, UCSB, Santa Clara, Stanford, Pepperdine, UC Davis, University of San Diego, Loyola Maramount, etc.

THANK YOU!!

Of the schools listed, Stanford is a crap shoot. For UCLA, your SAT will probably keep you out. I’d take the SAT and/or ACT again to bump your chances.

The others, you should make it in but, you never know until the acceptances show up. In addition to the privates you list, I’d encourage you to apply to 4-5 UCs (maybe LA, Davis, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Irvine) and 2-4 CSUs (how about SDSU and Cal Poly SLO at least).

You are better off with more choices.

Stanford and UCLA - no.
UCSB, UC Davis and Pepperdine - possibly if you raise your SAT/ACT scores. With your current scores you risk being denied or waitlisted.
Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount - Yes

You need to add a few colleges onto your list that are safeties (such as your local CSU).

^^^ agree with MLM but also think you will be admitted to Pepperdine. Your SAT makes the others less certain. Retaking it is a good idea.

Can you afford the cost of the privates? Have you run net price calculators?

Remember that the UC system does not allow you to superscore. You may take the SAT multiple times but you must use scores from a single sitting.

Also remember that you will need your finances for medical school, so it will be important to not run up huge loans.

What are your safeties? While we think you will get into the privates, this is not guaranteed. And they certainly may not be financial safeties.
