I’m a student from Ohio. I have a 4.2 gpa, have taken nearly a year’s worth of college courses, several ECs and many volunteer hours. I got a 25 on the ACT and a 1240 on the SAT but I plan to retake both of them. Can someone please chance me for any UC or CSU college?
Can you/your parents afford the cost to attend those schools? You will be full pay.
Yes
You are going to have to calculate your UC GPA first. You can try this site: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Right now your ACT is too low for most UCs except Merced and possibly Riverside or Santa Cruz. See if you can bring that up. Check this website - http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/riverside/freshman-profile/index.html
BTW is there a reason you are looking at CA public schools rather than privates? You might have more success with private schools.
Depending upon UC/CSU capped weighted GPA and major along with your ACT score, these will all contribute to your chances. Which CSU’s since there 23 campuses? Since you are OOS, only AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th will be weighted. OOS honors courses to not get the extra honirs weighting. UC’s are very GPA focused but to be competitive you will need to raise your ACT.
2017 data which shows UC Merced or Riverside are your targets with current ACT.
25th - 75th percentiles for ACT:
UCB: 30-34
UCLA: 30-34
UCSD: 29-34
UCSB: 28-33
UCD: 26-32
UCI: 26-32
UCSC: 26-31
UCR: 23-30
UCM: 20-27
Just as the Ohio public schools are all different, so are the California schools. Would you think that it was a good idea to be chanced for all the Ohio schools? It’s probably a better move to determine if there are schools that are good fits and THEN figure out if you’d have a chance of admission. Your major should have a big influence on this. Good luck.
What are some good private schools as well?
You need to give us more information before we can be of any help. Major? Small (like Kenyon), medium (Notre Dame, large (Miami Ohio), Giant (THE Ohio State University)? Climate? Rural, suburban, urban? Ease of getting back home? Support for hobbies like skiing, hiking, surfing, culture, etc? Class sizes? Use of TAs? The list could go on and on. Only you can define what’s important to you.
