California Community Colleges and Advanced Placement Credit

<p>Hello Everyone!</p>

<p>As of now, I’m considering doing my Freshman year and Sophomore year at a semi-local CCC and from there, transfer to Berkeley or Santa Barbara. As of now, these are the AP Courses that I have taken with their scores.</p>

<p>-Chemistry (4)
-United States History (5)
-English Language (5)
-Psychology (4)
-Human Geography (4)
-Environmental Science (5)</p>

<p>Next year <em>these are my hopeful scores</em>
-English Literature (5)
-Physics 1 (4)
-Calculus ab (5)
-Biology (5)
-United States Government (5)
-Macroeconomics (5)</p>

<p>Anyway, I used Santa Barbara City College’s AP transfer credit pdf, and ostensibly, I should be awarded 46 credits? And this is without the courses that I have already taken at my other local community college</p>

<p>Is that enough to put me in Sophomore standing? How easy would college be with this many credits? How fast may I transfer to a UC with this many credits?</p>

<p>When you transfer to UC or CSU, you need to match up your AP credits to that UC or CSU campus and major acceptance of AP credits (although if you get IGETC certification, the community college’s policy applies there).</p>

<p>IGETC certification will stick from the CC BUT the units will not transfer over. The UC or CSU campus will calculate the AP units using their own standards. </p>

<p>How easy?
In terms of class selection? Incredibly easy because you have over half of IGETC knocked out so you’ll can focus more on your major prep courses.
In terms of getting classes? Well if your CC uses the AP scores to bump up your priority then very good as well. But if not then you might be struggling to get into the classes you need. </p>

<p>What is IGETC certification?
Oh, and I meant, would college be “easier” not having to take 15 classes, or something? Can I also transfer to a UC in less time? Would the UCs be impressed that I have all this credit?</p>
