“Some doctors in the state of California will soon be able to practice after three years of medical school instead of the traditional four. The American Medical Association is providing seed money for the effort in the form of a $1 million, five-year grant to the University of California at Davis.” …
This initiative isn’t something new.
UCD isn’t the first or only school to offer a compressed medical education program for primary physicians.
Mercer, NYU and Texas Tech all have optional 3 year primary care track programs.
OHSU has transitioned to a new curriculum that is learner-based and allows students to skip coursework if they can prove existing competency in an area. (And thus shortened the overall length of their medical education on a individual, case-by-case basis)
LECOM (Lake Erie College of Medicine in Pennsylvania) also offers a 3 year program for fast-tracking primary care doctors. It’s program has been in existence since 2008.
Mmmmm… wonderful. More “doctors” that can’t tell you if the “broken arm” is a radius or ulna.
