California School prestigiousness??

<p>Well i wanted to know the name recognition and prestigiousness(?) of all UCs and USC… and whatever other school you would like to add in (Caltech too i suppose if you want to…)</p>

<p>Put these in a order you think has the most name recognition and is most prestigious of them all… something like that (like i said, you can add on to this list)</p>

University of California Los Angeles
University of California Berkeley (<- i’m pretty sure this will be number 1 for everybody)
University of California Davis
University of California Santa Barbara

<p>I was just curious… i don’t live in California so i don’t know about most of these (except Berkeley, UCLA, and USC… oh and Caltech, ofcourse!)</p>

<p>Outside of CA, I think only Cal, LA, USC and Caltech are generally known. At the NE schools I know, those and the Claremonts are the only schools people apply to.</p>

<p>Out of state, (at least in my area) the most commonly known california schools are </p>

<p>Private: Stanford, Caltech, USC
Public: UC Berkeley, UCLA</p>

<p>Every once in a while other names pop up, but the above are the most common. I can’t give a really objective ranking of prestigiousness in the UCs, though.</p>

<p>not as well known probably but it is listed as a top ten liberal arts school according to US News</p>

<p>Pomona is considered equal from an eduational point of view from those “in the know”, and if grad school admissions are any indication. But from a purely “prestige” point of view, (man on the street) I’d say it has a long way to go before people put it in the same bucket as Stanford or Cal Tech.
Prestige= highly regarded + well-known. Pomona is highly regarded, but not really well known. That seems to be changing, though.</p>

<p>It’s hard for small schools to ever reach the prestige level of larger ones. They just don’t have the bodies to spread the word!</p>

<p>Yeah, Pomona really speaks for itself when you look at it’s statistics–they’re amazing. I always thought it was kind of sad that there were a lot of schools like that that aren’t nearly as well-known.</p>

<p>Don’t think of it as sad… think of it as a great opportunity… especially for those who want excellence but aren’t that concerned with “name.” </p>

<p>They can get their prestigious name in grad school. :slight_smile: If they care.</p>

<p>Lol by the time Pomona admits graduate, the school will be prestigious. Its like investing in a stock. Sure it isn’t prestigious now, but in 10 years who knows?</p>
