California Schools for B student??

Starting to hear of folks on a UCR waitlist.

This is getting interesting. Does this mean that only UCM will be able to ‘guarantee’ a spot for a student that meets the admission requirements? I would imagine that UCM can’t accept everyone simply because of their current school size and facilities.

Will there actually come a day very soon when the UCs will admit they can’t accept everyone, or will they just raise their admission requirements?

UCR is no longer a referral school, only UCM. That was in the news in January, but they were also saying they would do their best to accommodate all kids who applied to UCR.

“The Inland Empire’s surging growth in applicants in the last two years prompted officials there to announce that it would no longer accept referral pool students — those eligible to attend UC but who fail to win admission to their preferred campuses. Beginning this fall, UC Riverside will only accept students who apply to the campus directly.”
"Susan Wilbur, UC’s director of undergraduate admissions, said the university expected to admit all eligible applicants this year and maintain its 31,500 freshman enrollment target for California residents, despite the $500-million budget cut proposed by Gov. Jerry Brown.

“We are committed to finding a space for everyone,” she said."

So much for that.

Son was waitlisted…at UCR!

@Shrinkrap --wow! The times, they are a-changin’…

Glad he’s got a lot of great options in any case.

Yes indeed!

Another update: DD was admitted to UC Merced today. Still waiting to hear from Cal Poly Pomona…

“DD was admitted to UC Merced today”

Yay!

Asked someone about that and was told it’s still true.
