California State Law Requiring Universities to Release Application Information

Hi everyone!

I’m a third year UCLA student who just started writing for one of the student newspapers. During our media law lecture today, the lawyer who spoke to us informed us of a California law requiring public (maybe even private?) institutions to release application information to those who request it. Meaning, UC Berkeley would have to release to me my rejected admissions decision (why I was rejected) and UCLA would have to show me why I was accepted.

Out of curiosity, I’d love to see what qualified me for acceptance at UCLA and not into Berkeley. How could I get this information from the schools? What is the name of this law? I missed it. I remember hearing about it on some thread on this site too.
