Our son wants to look at NY schools and play soccer. He is a Goalkeeper and looking at D3 schools. Has a 4.0 and no SAT’s yet but practice tests predict he will have about a 1800 overall. U. of Rochester is actively recruiting him and we are wondering where else might be a good fit?
He is Christian, white, and moderately conservative. He’d like a school with more than 2000 kids and major in Business or Econ. Vassar was at the top of the list but they just recruited 2 GK’s so now don’t need him.
Thank you!

If you are looking in the Rochester area, maybe Roberts [Roberts Athletics :: Men’s Soccer](Error) or Houghton [Houghton College: Men’s Soccer Home](MSEd, August, FT | Houghton University) as far a Christian colleges.

Thank you. Haven’t heard of either of these. He doesn’t particularly want “Christian” college but won’t fit it if it’s a primarily Jewish and very liberal.

Has he looked at Syracuse, then?

[Syracuse University Athletics](http://suathletics.syr.edu/index.aspx?path=msoccer)

Syracuse is Division 1. Looks like we will go to Skidmore. Maybe Union, Renssalear but seems too nerdy and too many guys.

If you are looking in the Rochester area SUNY Geneseo is a good choice. Geneseo is about 45 minutes from Rochester. Geneseo is a top public LAC in NY. Excellent Business program. According to Kiplinger, Geneseo ranks #2 Best Value for out-of-state students.

Fun look at Geneseo:

Great suggestions. Will look into it now.

Hobart and William Smith is one college that comes to mind. Strong D3 athletics and about the size of school your son is looking for. HWS is not far from Rochester in the Finger Lakes town of Geneva. Students’ political views are more or less middle of the road also. Another possibility, although it is a lot further north, is St. Lawrence University. Good athletics, good academics and about the size your son is seeking.
