Calling all runners: Runners watch ???

H was wearing his RoadID when he was cycling and hit by a truck. Without that, I fear the Good Sams wouldn’t have been able to contact me from the scene.

(Compound fx of the clavicle, 2 cracked verts, and 6 fx ribs. CC Fb friends might know the photo I have online.)

Happy to report that Hubby now has his defibrillator safely implanted. I am so glad to hear others are going to get a Road ID. I hope it serves as a charm that wards off harm, but if it fails, at least others will be better equipped to help them.

work, glad to hear this news, and will be buying Road IDs as stocking stuffers for the riverrunnerextendedfamily. Thanks for the reminder.

Riverrunner, I just got an email from RoadID with a coupon code. If you’d like I’ll PM the code to you…it’s only $1 off…but a dollar’s a dollar!! :)

sounds good to me!

Okay, I feel dumb. I googled Garmin Forerunner 205 and apparently there are two different items. One is a fitness monitor and the more expensive one is a watch.
Is the only difference between the two the watch?

I don’t know what you are looking at, but the Forerunner 205 is a GPS watch (no heart rate monitor). It should cost around $130-150 at this point. It is a giant watch looking thing that you wear on your wrist.

Does this help?

what is the difference between these two? (besides $35.50)

You’ve got me. They look like the same thing to me!

Looks the same to me, too. Amazon has the 205 a few $$ cheaper and free shipping, also.

Looks like the more expensive watch has an antenna that you wrap around your wrist. I ordered the other (cheaper) 205 shown in the picture from Amazon for $124.00.

205 on Walmart site is $124 but sold out! :(

In all my years of running with Garmins and seeing every possible model, I have never heard of wrapping anything around your wrist other than the device/watch itself.

Even the Garmin website only has one item in the inventory listing for the 205. I wonder if Overstock got the items from two different sources, and someone doesn’t realize they’re the same?? hmmmm

Saw it on Amazon. I was originally confused because I went to Google Shopping and searched for garmin forerunner 205 and got a very wide variety of price points and some were calling it a GPS receiver and others called it a watch.

I am just going to get it from Amazon and be done - thanks!

Thanks so much for this thread! I ordered a 305 through Amazon for DH’s xmas present. It arrived Friday and it looked great. Yesterday, he was heading out to walk and said he wants to gradually increase his pace before he returns to running. One thing led to another, discussion about heart rate, etc., and I broke down and gave it to him before the holidays. He was so pumped. An ordinary heart monitor seems more patient-like, he has one from when he had his heart attack, this just seems like a high-tech toy. He said it is amazingly comfortable and is easy to read. Thanks to all for your input. I might have made the mistake of going for the 405 - too hard to read for those over 55 eyes.

Anyway, happy day. Accompanied him (just walking) on his usual 5k running route. It was a great day!!

What a nice wife you are! I just love early Christmas gifts!

Yay! He will love it. I think the HR feature is good for all runners. I use mine all the time.

Not to hijack the post, but thought the assembled runners might have a suggestion for my runner who has asked for a jacket to run in. Not looking for extremely low temp running, but still winter running.

That’s a tough one. There are SO many. I would go to roadrunnersports.com and just look at the selection. There are a range of fabrics, weights etc. I have jackets and tops for about every 5 degree temperature range (not to mention precipitation) so it’s hard for me to tell you just one jacket.
