I saw in another thread someone said CALS ties with New York state are weakening, to the point that it may become “non-state” soon. Anyone know anything about this?

The only things I know are:
- NYS cut more funding to CALS.
- There is a new One Cornell initiative to get all the colleges to share finances. I suppose if that happens NYS wouldn’t be needed as much…

Cornell is the land grant institution for NY State. That will not change. As such, it is under contract with the state to provide services to residents of the state, i.e, through its Cooperative Extenions program. In turn, the state provides finances and offers in-state residents a lower tuition. Not changing.

The state has cut money to all colleges, not just Cornell.

One Cornell is not about sharing finances. It’s about thinking strategically so that all colleges can work together and collaboratively and also share administrative costs.

Likewise, MIT is the land grant institution for Massachusetts, so the endowed / land grant status are not mutually exclusive.
