Is it more difficult to get into CALS if I am not a NY state resident? I am a female with strong interest in Computer Science and the environment and CALS seems like a perfect fit. I am thinking of applying early but if I have a lower chance since I am not a NY state resident I don’t want to waste my ED school. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Computer science isn’t offered in CALS, so if you’re planning on majoring in it, you should either apply to arts and sciences or engineering.
D14 was accepted into Cornell Engineering through RD…also from Washington state. If you do CS through engineering, being female helps…they invited accepted female students to their “women in engineering” accepted student weekend in April and they really did a good job with the content of that weekend. That is what completely sold my daughter! She is a happy sophomore at Cornell this fall and LOVES her school! She also found her sub-niche with the band kids there as well.
My daughter did end up switching out of engineering into CALS this past spring (was in environmental engineering, but wanted to focus on more grassroots environmental stuff, so is now an environmental science/ecology/sustainability major. But, she did love the engineering college in general, and I do think they heavily recruit women because they want a 50-50 mix.
@4kids2graduate , Thanks for the info, It really helps. I am really interested in computer science/engineering/ tech however I am really passionate about sustainability technology and I am trying to find a good fit and looking at Cornell’s CALS program, I thought it is exactly what I would like to do. I am leaning towards applying RD now. thanks again for your advice.
