@JJ_Wattson , may I ask if your son has attended any ID camp before the Caltech’s coach offers the pre-read? Thanks.
Happy to answer. He attended a number of camps (some at individual schools and a few general camps) but none with the Caltech coach present. For Caltech, he sent a highlight video, followed up with videos and emails back and forth, met the coach on a campus visit, and played in front of the coach at an event in San Diego before he was offered the pre-read/support. There are many ways to get in front of the coach, but the important things, in my view, with Caltech were fit (both for positions they are recruiting in a year and for Caltech as a whole, as it is a unique college), academic ability, interest, playing in front of the coach and building a good relationship over the course of his recruitment.
No my son did not attend any camps. It was only via email, phone call and Zoom conversation
