The waitlist letter says this year is one of the largest and most competitive pool, and waitlisted students will be notified before July 1 for final decision

Caltech Admissions posted a comment on their IG (under the 2029 admissions post) about 17 minutes ago saying they are aware of the problem, are working on resolving it and will send out an email shortly.

Seems odd that they never actually said the words âwe are unable to offer you admissionâ. Congrats to all who were accepted and good luck as you pursue this amazing opportunity.
Didnât want to go to some janky institution anyway that leaks emails to the wrong people and takes hours to get their portal working for everyone. How TF does this place manange JPL when they canât manage an applicant portal that even the crappiest schools seem to have no problems doing?

What percent of applicant does Caltech usually waitlist? Is it like some other universities that usually waitlists a lot of students or does caltech remain a small group of Acceptances and Waitlists?
I was curious so checked. (Search âcommon data setâ and Caltech to find more years of data). For the last 3 years that are available, Caltech waitlisted about half as many as were admitted, and accepted very few of the waitlist.
Fall 2023:
Accepted 412
Enrolled 266
Waitlisted 213
Opted into waitlist 199
Admitted from waitlist 0
Fall 2022:
Accepted 448
Enrolled 224

Wow, I thought they waitlisted a lot more than that. So if I got waitlisted by Caltech, it doesnât mean my application is bad (probably top 5% of all Caltech Apps I guess?), maybe not competitive enough to get admitted to Caltech, but I still have good chances at other T10 universities.
