<p>I don’t think that the UC pranks would work. It seems like there are too many people who would just ruin it by doing stupid stuff, like vandilizing, etc. Seems like a UCI-UCSD won would go downhill too fast.
The MIT/CAL Tech one works because they’re competing top, genius schools who want to outsmart each other, not out do each other.</p>
