Cambridge University Chances

Hi, I am a freshman in high school and I would eventually like to apply to the University of Cambridge. I plan on doing the IB program and also a couple AP classes. I know it is very hard to get into Cambridge as an American, but would it be easier if I did a year of college at an american university first? Also which Cambridge college has the highest acceptance rates? Btw, I plan on applying for economics.

Cambridge is a reach for anyone regardless of college. I believe that, if you come with a full IB diploma they will not look at the SAT.

According to the Cambridge website

You will absolutely need to do well in IB Higher Level Mathematics
You should take and do well in IB Higher Level Economics
You may also want to take IB Higher Level Business and Management

You want to focus on subjects that involve social sciences such as: English Literature, History, languages and Mathematics

And here’s IB specific info: Offers are regularly made on the International Baccalaureate, requiring scores between 40 and 42 points out of 45, with 776 or 777 in the Higher Level subjects.

Last year, something like 7 Americans got into Cambridge. Why do you want to go to Cambridge? I highly suggest that you leave where your education will end up open-ended for now so that you can grown and explore and then end up going to the college that suits you as a person the best in four years, rather than striving for a future before you know if it’s the right one for YOU.

To answer your question, though, I know a girl who got in this past year. She got a 40 on the IB Diploma, is 5 years ahead in math, is president of the math team, and is exceptionally smart in all other areas too. She also has tested EXTREMELY well on math tests and has gone to national math competitions. Good luck! Oh, and she got her IB diploma a year early.

Ok thanks everyone for the responses, I guess I can dream!
