Does anyone know if Campbell Hall is co-ed or sub. free?

For that matter, does anyone know which of all the halls are sub-free or co-ed? I heard an allusion to some kind of master map, but I don’t know where to find it.

Campbell is Mathey’s monastery/nunnery. I think it’s substance free too, but I’m not entirely sure.

Substance free areas:

Butler College
Lourie Love

Forbes College
2nd floor rooms 201-272

Mathey College
Blair basement and entries 4-9

Rockefeller College
Buyers

Wilson College
Dodge Osborn (2nd floor & room 111) and 1939

Thanks, armavirumque.

so is campbell sub free? you didnt list it but above you mentioned it

It’s not. Entryways are single-sex, though (if the tradition of the last few years holds).

what do you mean single-sex entryways? I am on the third floor of Campbell, is the entire building single sex or what?

The way a lot of halls in princeton work are by entryways. A lot of buildings dont have the “hall system.” instead, you have an entryway (like a door), with maybe 2 rooms on each floor (that face each other directly) but its not like Witherspoon Hall where its just one giant building and there are 20 rooms in a hallway. So say Campbell has 5 entryways (I dont know how many it has), 1, 3, 4 may be just girls and 2, 5 may be just guys. Don’t worry, you dont hang out in your entryways that often and its less than 10 seconds to get to another entryway.

Is any part of Witherspoon sub-free?

No. The only subfree part of Rocky is Buyers. Witherspoon has a lotta parties and it will have even more parties next year as it is dominated by fraternity and sorority members.

are campbell dorm rooms very nice?

Campbell is way overdue for renovation. Third floor Campbell … the washrooms are in the basement, and I’ve heard complaints about the roof leaking. But on the bright side, you’ll have a nice view. There’s also the Campbell lounge (with TV, DVD, and microwave) in the basement, as well as a music room (two extremely out of tune pianos in nice soundproofed cubicles, but there’s a weird smell).

what are entries 4-9 in mathey? what rooms would that encompass?

Entries 4-9 in Blair. Mathey as a college doesn’t have a cumulative entryway system. It goes building by building. You can check which rooms in Blair those are on the floor plans located on the Princeton site.

room numbers 40-99, I presume, since I’m 91 and it’s subfree.

I think some of the substance free dorm designations might have changed for 2006. Looks like it did for Butler… From this years room draw guide they are as follows:

Butler - 1942 Hall 2nd and 3rd floors

Forbes - 2nd floor rooms 201-216, 251-272

Mathey - Blair, except for third floor

Rockey - Buyers

Wilson - Dodge Osborn and 1939

Can anyone log on to the room draw guide? I can’t.

lastone is right - they change the designations around. It seems that (at least in the case of 1942) they try to make dorms that were a “problem” last year sub-free, in order to prevent a specific dorm from getting progressively worse.

In general, though, I think that incoming freshmen worry way to much about sub-free. While it may help for the initial roommate matching and may help you to avoid loud party areas, it’s not like in non-sub-free areas people come in every day and inject you with heroin. My roommates and I weren’t in sub-free last year, but only once did a party keep us up and (as far as we knew, at least) only one room of people smoke/drank in the building.
To make a long story short - if you don’t want to use “substances,” don’t use them. Whether or not your room number falls in a specific range shouldn’t change your decision.

“it’s not like in non-sub-free areas people come in every day and inject you with heroin”

LOL! There’s a dose of much-needed perspective.
