H and I are planning a camping trip to Glacier NP from Ca and back. It will be a mix of tent camping and motels. I have reservations in Glacier and Montana. We want to also camp in Sawtooth Area north of Ketchum. Have a night in a motel in Sun Valley/Ketchum area to shower. I have a list of several campground recommendations near Stanley and Redfish Lake so I feel set in that area.
Once we leave Sun Valley we will head towards Davis Ca. We have 3 or 4 days to get there. One idea is to head straight to Lake Tahoe and camp for 3 nights. Any campground suggestions near Lake Tahoe? We don’t necessarily need to be on the lake.
If you do what most tourists do and pick the campgrounds nearest to the lake, you will be crammed in like sardines. My advice is to look at places away from the lake a bit, especially if you are looking for more peace and solitude. As you get further from the lake, the views and quality of camping get better.
Recommended places: Hope Valley, Blue Lakes, Silver Lake, Meeks Bay
If you really prefer a campground close to the lake, the best one IMO is probably Fallen Leaf. KOA in Meyers is another option if you need things like showers and a general store, but it has a very dense setup which is not ideal (IMO). I like my space! Have fun!
