Camps with a lodge and cabins for a weekend wedding?

Check out Full Moon Resort in Big Indian NY. We are attending a weekend wedding in October.

Thanks for all of the ideas. Does anyone have an personal experience with the state park system in Ohio? They have park and conference centers at Salt Fork and Maueebay Bay. Maybe not quite as personal as some of the others but seem inviting and reasonable.

I’m fairly familiar with Maumee Bay - what kind of questions do you have??? What season of the year will your event be??? How “fancy” or not fancy are you looking for?

I was just talking to someone who attended a wedding at Maumee Bay State Park over the weekend. She said it was beautiful. The reception was in a tent that overlooked a pond. The resort is on a bay, so I’d think that view would be better. The cabins are not rustic. I’d describe them more as townhouses, scattered throughout the grounds. There is also a hotel, with a restaurant, banquet rooms, gift shop, indoor pool, game room, etc. We’ve had a company Christmas party inside and a company picnic outside, in a tent, but it was a cool day, so the tent had sides. The facilities are very nice.

This is for a wedding in late spring or early summer. the idea is to have the ceremony, reception, lodging, all in one place for guests to interact. Definitely on the less formal side. Activities for guests to participate in such as boating, tennis, volley ball. Lodging needs to be clean. The menus at Maumee Bay and Salt Fork seem reasonable. How does it taste?

I have eaten there a couple of times. One was a Mother’s Day brunch which was quite good. Again, not four star, but very good. That was a couple of years ago.

They have nice walking trails through a wooden area that we really enjoy - all ages would enjoy - you’ll see some deer and other wildlife!

Lots of people bring bikes and do a lot of biking on the grounds - not sure if you can rent them there.

I attended a wedding there in May a few years back. It was GORGEOUS outside, but it really was a picture perfect day - 75 and sunny. Liked it because we could take a break from the reception noise and walk outside for a bit (nice pathways) and then join back in. The lodge is generally nicely kept as far as I’ve heard. Indoor/outdoor pool and some racketball courts inside if I remember correctly. Might have outside volleyball. Beach is also there to walk (Lake Erie) - Sandusky and Cedar Point less than an hour away if families want to do that the day after the wedding.

Agree that Letchworth State park is a perfect venue and close to the Finger lakes area with great wineries!

Where are a majority of your guests located - what state? You’re casting a wide search so I’m just wondering where home base is and how people might travel. If people are flying you also need to consider airports and such.

Montfair Farm near Charlottesville, VA.

I almost fell off my chair when I read the title of this thread. I thought, hey, there IS another family that had a wedding like ours had a couple years ago. Alas, CC folks are just too darned classy for that.

I could give you the name of the camp where my niece was married. It’s conveniently located near the speedway, and there is a lodge … as well as plenty of campsites and a few rental cabins. You can charge $15 for all-you-can-drink beer for the weekend, and maybe my niece can get the tattoo artist she had to come give $20 tattoos for your guests. Oh, and maybe the wiccan priestess will officiate for you, too. And don’t forget the “white girl dance-off” at the reception.

But I suppose you aren’t looking for quite that level of ambiance. :)

Well, cabins, lodge, campsites (?) fit the bill but unfortunately a tattoo artist was not a line item in the budget. Good to know, though  Although, I may ask later about the officiant !

abasket, you’re right about the wide net - many home bases from key players. I’m trying for no more than 6 hours drive for any one contingent. But yes, in the back of my mind I’m considering access to an airport.
