Campus Creepouts: White-Haired Kid Scam in NY

This sounds a little weird, but I actually think it’s a problem. I’ve been hanging around NYU campus at night for awhile and I’ve seen some pretty suspect/scam-y stuff going on that you should probably consider before shipping to an urban campus.

I was on my way back to campus—I’d just grabbed a family-sized box of Cheerios (I am a college student), and some plastic spoons (dishes? I think not) after buying some avocadoes at a fruit/veggie stand—I make ridiculous guacomole. Anyway, I’m usually caged in my room after about 6pm, but the stand was really just across the street—you can see the checkered tent from my window. So, I had my goods and I was hoboing back to my dorm around 7:00pm when this shock of white hair catches my attention. Now, our area is pretty metropolitan but you still don’t see a lot of kids with white hair. And by kid, I mean kid.
He looked like he’d gotten left behind from a second grade field trip or something. I had to cross the street to get back to campus, and so the kid’s next to me on the crosswalk, looking at me. He starts moving his lips or whatever but I guess I couldn’t hear him over the cars and horns and stuff. But I leaned in and still couldn’t hear him–It was weird, and so I kinda just toyed with my bag and waited for the crosswalk to turn red like ***?

But this minivan pulls up in front of us because the stoplight is yellow. The driver was this soccer mom-looking woman; you could tell she was a tourist (all wide-eyed and staring at her GPS like it was the Lord). I was about to walk (run) across when one of my avocados slipped out of the bag, so I had to chase it before it rolled in a gutter [or something equally embarassing]. But When I looked back up, the kid wasn’t walking across the street. I could have sworn I saw a pale white shock of hair suddenly appear IN THE MINIVAN. I’m almost positive that woman driver wasn’t expecting anything—she hadn’t looked away from the little car screen. But I saw him right in the backseat next to a Spongebob car seat. I didn’t have time to see very well because I had to cross, but I think the kid was smiling when the light changed and it drove away. What he was doing→ I don’t even wanna know. We didn’t have these problems in the south.

Campus safety needs to be a high priority when you’re making admissions deicsions. There are A LOT of weird things going on—especially if you or your kid aren’t used to the city.

Have you guys heard of any other weird city scams to look out for?

I’m so confused. Don’t doors lock if they’re automatic? Aren’t they generally locked if manual? How did he get in without her noticing?

Maybe it was her kid?

Btw, scams and crimes happen everywhere not just urban areas.

Wow, that is a very vivid dream. I have super vivid dreams after I eat Chinese food. I could interpret the dream for you, if you’d like.

:)

and you took the time to post here instead of calling the police??

I think you’re eating too much cheerios.

It was an apparition. Never seen one myself, but I have seen the movie. Person of Interest can probably figure out what is going on. Then again, it is New York City and anything and everything can happen there.

■■■■■…

Was this in the Greenwich Village campus of NYU or Village of the Damned?

Oh darn, I was on phone and didn’t see posters… er… history?

I’m going with ghost. Ghosts are freaking awesome. Don’t worry, they don’t steal :)

I don’t get this post. But, nice images with the rolling avocado and everything . . . Scam? How so?

…they tend to make you ‘loopy’ when taken in high dosages.

Avocados? Or Cheerios?

I think you’re just over thinking this situation.
Also, crimes happen everywhere… Not only in urban areas.

I don’t even understand the situation. What exactly happened?

I will summarize:
College hipster sees albino kid get picked up by mom, then he makes guacamole.

Mmmmmmmmmmm guacamole

see my first post. I mean c’mon, so many loops, how can it not make you loopy?

Hahaha! Village of the Damned!!!

Occam’s razor! Good job. :D

My kid has white hair–it is called Vitiligo. Not so creepy. Not contagious.
