Again???

I just sent a donation to the Brady Center in memory of the victims of UCSB’s shooting rampage. Now this.
Not. One. More.

Wait wait, let me guess (not to anyone in this thread, in general). It’s “too soon” to talk about why white males are overwhelmingly doing this. It’s “too soon” to discuss real gun control and mental health reform. It’s “too soon” to do anything about this.

It will always be “too soon” because they are happening in such quick succession.Instead, we must just “pray” and hope for the best because, really, that’s working out so well so far.

(Sorry if I sound bitter but as a college student, I shouldn’t have to fear my fellow students. I’m sick of this and I’m sick of it not being addressed.)

Right, romani. As I said the last time, let’s just make sure we have enough candles and paper cups on hand for all the vigils. I am sick of it too.

It sounds like it was an older man and a student?
I think they are in custody.
Kiro is reporting one gunman and six injured.

I think we need to stop publishing and showing their names and tirades. No acknowledgement that they have a name. They are the alleged shooter, period. No more fame, no more glory.

I disagree, I think people have a right to know.
One victim has died.
I was on my way to do errands, but I dont have the stomach for it anymore.
But the helicopters are driving me insane.

romani says : “white males are overwhelmingly doing this”-one of my kids went to Virginia Tech. The shooter was Asian. This stuff is crossing all lines. The most recent shooter in California was Eurasian. So not sure where you are getting all the white male stuff. Even white girls are doing crazy stuff with this Slender Man stuff. Very scary all around.

I agree, Singersmom07. I for one am sick and tired of the shooter being a household name, yet the victims’ are not. Sure, give the public the details. But tell about the “alleged shooter”. Let him/her fade into oblivion. Don’t give them the glory they so desperately seek.

They havent mentioned anything about the shooter, only that I have the impression it isnt a student.

The shooter gets his 15 minutes of fame and leaves so much devastation behind. So sorry to hear Seattle has been touched by this craziness.

So sorry, EK. It is even more awful when it hits close to home.

I truly don’t know what to say because this time it’s a place I know. I want someone, anyone, to give us a solution to this kind of frightening violence.

more white people shot, makes national news.

black people regularly being shot still suspiciously absent…

I don’t see a description of the shooter anywhere.

Oh please stop with the race-baiting.

The news covers the Chicago shootings all the time for example:

Right after the story on this shooting, there was a story on the tv news about the search for the killer of two young black men in Central Seattle. the shooting happened over the weekend. More promising lives struck down by gun violence.
One of my running routes goes right past the SPU campus. I know people who work there. It does hit close to home, and it makes my heart ache. The parents of the young man who died. The others injured. The young man who tackled the shooter and undoubtedly saved others. I don’t want to know about the shooter. No name, no life story, nothing.

My dr who was supposed to call me about booking an appt for tomorrow has an office so close to SPU that just a couple years ago, a building maintenance guy told me as I was parking my car, " Students can’t park here".
Um, good? I said after I recovered from roflao. :D

I am impressed with the fast work of the student who used pepper spray to disarm the shooter.
It is pretty bad, but it could have been worse.
Pretty unexpected though, its a small religious school in a fairly quiet neighborhood.
I remember when they didn’t even allow students to put on dances.

Its one thing to die doing something you love, as the guides and climbers did on Rainier recently, but to be attacked inside your school is horrible, & unfortunately, becoming more & more frequent.
