Can A 1600...

/2400 get in to Chicago??

if that’s all they report that was good, absolutely not. Although a 1600/2400 will allow you to get at least mediocre grades and/or essays, the SAT score does not make the application an automatic admit. However, if you’re smart enough to get a 1600/2400, you probably have at least decent grades to back them up.

One would think that an applicant intelligent enough to ace the SATs would know the answer to this question already. Stop screwing around, but listen to graj in the meantime.

I think OP might have meant 1600 out of 2400…but I’m not sure.

probably not what is that…avg 530 a section? Maybe if you were an URM with stellar essays and EC’s i dont see it happening

If you had a zero in the writing, I’d say you were fine.

Ah, I didn’t read it as 1600 out of 2400; I read it as 1600 CR/M, 2400 all parts together. I’m sorry if I’ve offended anybody here.

Detailed statistics concerning SAT scores can be found here: http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level3.asp?id=377</a></p>

If that 1600 is meant to cut it for all three sections (about 530-540 per section), the essays/grades would have to be phenomenal. But it’s been done.

First, Chicago only evaluates out of 1600.

Second, it is a rather dumb, yet understandable question.

Your 800/800 status will not change you from a “no” to a “yes,” though if other parts of your application are strong, you’re qualified for admission (but again, no guarantee). My impression is that SAT scores are among the least determinant factors of your admission, either at Chicago or at any other elite school. I have yet to see a school prefer 1600s to 1550s or 1600s to 1500s for any reason whatsoever.

I am pretty sure a 1600 is not something that they admit students on. I believe it is something more of “he’s on the fence, does this make him an admit?” or something of like “can I take this application seriously, does the score pass the ‘test’” type thing

Actually unalove, Chicago evaluates on the new scale now:

"Test scores - Have official SAT Reasoning or ACT scores sent to the University of Chicago. (Chicago’s SAT code is 1832; the ACT code is 1152.) All testing must be completed prior to the application deadline. SAT Subject Test scores are not required, but you are welcome to add them to your file. If you choose to submit SAT scores, you must sit for the new version of the SAT with the essay component. (If you choose to submit ACT scores, we do not require the optional essay component.) "

And I’m pretty sure the OP meant 1600/2400 not, 1600/1600 since he put 1600/2400.

Do some prep courses to bring it up and take it in October, sitting with a 1600 on the new scale is not a pretty place to be.
