Can a artist be a sports fan?

Hello,
I’m thinking of majoring in graphic design at my school. I have always loved art and have combined my two passions (sports/art) by doing paintings of stadiums, murals, etc.

Today- someone stopped me in the student union saying artists aren’t sports fans. I know there is a stereotype out there but there has to be at least a few artists that are sports fans, right? Do you know anyone? I guess I’m concerned about fitting in and if people will think of me as odd?

And by artists I mean it could be a painter, dancer, drama, graphic designer, etc.

Thanks

Of course they can. Anyone can be a fan of whatever they like. Artists typically do not allow themselves to be pigeonholed.

i am! i draw the celtics more than anything else honestly haha

don’t worry, i’m sure there’s lots of people like us (:

My S wants to study graphic design or illustration but also plays ice hockey and played football for a while.

I can see why someone snooty might say something like that, but it is not true.
here is a very successful artist done tons of sports theme.

It is not the style I like or do it myself, but hey, he did it and made pile of money to donate chunk to his alma mater, SAIC.
Where I am there are many hidden Yankees fans and/or figure skating watchers artists around. They are only waiting for someone to share their passion.

anyone can be an artist. Whoever said that is simply narrow-minded. Don’t let that bother you.

Frankly, as an artist, I don’t want to fit in.

Thank you all for the comments. Everyone is unique in their own way…I need to remember that :-)

Thanks again
