Can a B+ student get into an Honor's Program?

So my GPA is about 3.4 after my grades come out so that turns out to be about a B+. I’m going to be a senior next year. Well, I know my academics aren’t incredible, but can I get into any honors programs? I want an HONEST answer because I don’t want to apply and get all rejected… I was thinking about Temple U. but their Honor’s stats are 3.8 GPA! Arghhh.

Other stats:
1920 SAT but I’m taking it again Sept for a 2100+
Don’t have a Rank get but I’m guessing about 25%
Took 3 APs. Taking 3 APs next year.
Violin 12 years
Symphony at Connecticut College
Some volunteering at my local hospital

Any good Honor’s Programs for B+ students? Or will this be a reach?

give an honest answer! I want to know the truth! =p

you should…

If you get higher SAT scores then you can probably get into the University of Pittsburgh’s honors program. I got into the program and I had a similar GPA (3.42 UW, 4.95 W) but a 2080. I also got into the honors programs at the University of Miami, UCF, and University of Florida. To be honest, I considered those safeties.

Alabama has an excellent Honors College with 4 different honors programs. 2 programs admit by stats (test scores only ) and the other 2 programs have competitive admissions.

Your test scores are high enough to get admitted to the 2 programs that admit by stats.

UA HONORS COLLEGE http://honors.ua.edu/</a>
Incoming students with a 28 ACT or 1250 (math + cr) SAT will be automatically accepted to the Honors College upon submission of their application to the Honors College.

BTW…is that your weighted GPA?

My school doesn’t weigh GPA. My UW is 3.4

If you can get your school to write a weighted GPA on your transcript, then Bama would give you a scholarship.

mom2 - I was looking at Bama’s website and it says they give 4 full years of free tuition to NMFinalists. Do you have any insight as to what they might give a 34+ ACT kid with a GPA of 4.0+ that is not a NMF? They have a couple of degree programs that look really interesting.

You’re not going to get into Temple Honors with a B+ average unless you retake the SATs and get in the 2200s. Our honors program has gotten extremely competitive over the last few years.
