Can a good ACT make up for a bad SAT?

so I took the sat a few weeks ago and received a 970. it’s pretty low and I’m really disappointed because I was having a really bad day which is probably why my score is low but i take the act in a few weeks. After testing i had to pick schools to send my scores to which i regret because the score is really bad. I do really great in school but i’m not sure if i could still get into the colleges i want if i submit a good act score. Will my good act score overlook my bad sat score? or will i just have to take the sat again?

Yes

Yes, you can choose to send the SAT or the ACT. And colleges understand that one can have a really bad test day. The ACT may be a better test for you, or you may have to knuckle down and do more prep for standardized tests, or you may have too look at colleges that don’t care about your scores. There’s a whole list of them at https://www.fairtest.org/

If you are happy with your ACT and send that to colleges, no one will ever see your bad SAT. You are not required to send both (unless you are applying to Georgetown). Always check the standardized test requirements for your colleges directly on their admission websites.

While true, the OP already indicated that s/he used the free score report, so up to 4 colleges will see. But as I said, they won’t care if your ACT is better.

Do not automatically have your scores sent this time. It’s too bad they already have your SAT, but a decent ACT will help mitigate that.
