Can a good Math lv. 2 subject test out weight a bad SAT math section test?

I’ve signed up for the October SAT, but now I’m hesitant if I should even take it now.

I made a few silly mistakes and got a 780 on my math section on my previous test. So I signed up for the October SAT hoping to max out math and improve my overall superscore, but I realize doing this will lead me to have one extremely low single seat score (I haven’t prepared at all for the R&W section).

Adding on, I got a 790 on my math level 2 subject test. Since the math is harder on the subject test than the actual SAT, I was wondering if it even mattered if I improve my SAT math score by 20 points.

I’m applying to mostly competitive Engineering schools like Purdue or U Mich if that helps at all. I’m also a senior now, so the October SAT will probably be my last test.

Any insight will help, thanks in advance!

Do you really truly not realize how disingenuous you sound calling a 780 “bad”???

Oh, hell to the no.

If it’s at the cost of a bad EBRW score, no. Even the subconscious “we superscore and I’m supposed to ignore it but I still saw a low EBRW score” will outweigh any tiny 780 to 800 benefit, IMHO.

If anything, I’d try the Math 2 again to move from 74th percentile to a top score. Then you have the option of not sending anything.

But I’d think there are better investments of the time involved - it would only be for personal satisfaction.

(Fwiw, I understand the situation - my D is struggling to accept her 790M after seeing her silly mistake from the QAS)
