If a high school student is offered a transfer option after one year, is there any possibility that Cornell would consider that same student after only one semester? Has this ever happened?

I don’t think so. GTs are required to complete a specific set of coursework before entering Cornell. Also, logistic concerns (e.g. housing availability) severely limit the number of people Cornell can accept in the spring.

If you are talking about a GT, then no. It is firmly a one year commitment at another school.

Actually, I think if you are a college freshman, Cornell will NOT allow you to transfer in after your first semester, regardless of what kind of transfer you are.

I do know a student who was told upfront she could transfer in after one semester …which she did. However, her GT stated that upfront.

I was wondering the same thing. The idea being to take a full load in the summer and fall so that you would be eligible for spring admission.
