Can a passion "hurt" your chances?

D has two major passions, one (the one that she wants to pursue as a career - her art) she can demonstrate that passion through choices in hs curriculum, etc. but does not have a great many awards. Her other one, her sport that she has varsity lettered in (will have lettered in) for all four years of HS, she has awards, recognitions and achievements out the wazoo, however almost no schools have that sport.

Her #1 choice of school does NOT have the sport(can’t because of it’s geography) however several of her second, third, fourth schools do have it.
SHE is fine with this and ready to focus on her art, however, any college essay or interview is going to naturally demonstrate her involvement in the sport as something important to her.

Do you think that school #1 will look at her other schools that she is applying to and figure that they don’t have a chance of getting her, so to keep themselves looking good on their yield, this might hurt her?

I hope I have explained this well enough that some of you can give suggestions or thoughts.

PS-Can’t wait for this time next year when she will KNOW what is up…
Thanks everyone! :)

I don’t think this should be a problem. The passion is about what she has done, not necessarily what she intends to do. My d danced throughout high school and wrote about dance in her essays and short answer. Guess what? She’s going to a school that has a very weak dance department! Didn’t hurt her at all.
