Can a Regent request a non-Regent as a roommate for housing?

My friend and I are planning to room together in a suite in Unit 1 for the upcoming school year. Can we do this?

Non-regents are forbidden to even speak with regents students. There are separate staircases and entrance doors, the first five rows of all classrooms are strictly reserved for regents, . . .

Since all non-regents students are required to wear a patch while on campus (an upside down R), it is easy to spot them and avoid accidental contact.

Generally, not only will housing forbid non-regents to mix with regents in a room, but floors and in some units entire buildings are restricted to one or the other category of student.

Any two students of the same gender who get into the same residence hall can request each other as roommates.

^ exactly what ucbalumnus said

(but don’t forget regents aren’t allowed to interact with non-regents in person, so don’t worry, you won’t end up having to room with one of those non-regents…[ew])

Hate to break it to you. But regents really isn’t a big “award” or accomplishment. Most people won’t care; everyone’s equal once they come to Berkeley.

I love this.

but still don’t forget it’s still UC policy that regents and non-regents aren’t allowed to interact in person. regents have to wear the patch thing you see people wearing on campus.

answer to the question: yes, I know people who did that and it worked out.

to everyone else: lol

but if you want to do that the regents student has to give up the title (just fill out a few forms)

or the non-regent could try out for regents and get it…

…

Nice replies everyone. You post funny questions, and you’ll get funny answers. :)
