Can an arts teacher be a teacher recomendor?

I’m applying to more selective schools on the basis of my arts accomplishments.

I go to a performing arts high school so half my day is acedemic and half is arts, and I’ve had the same arts teachers every year.

Will Ivy schools accept this as a teacher recommendation? If I use an academic teacher it definitely won’t be as rich nor as accurate of my character.

My middle son is a music major and he had his band teacher do one of his recommendations. The other came from a more academic teacher. I think that if the school values the arts it is fine to have an arts teacher write your recommendation, especially if it is a teacher who knows you well.

Will they accept it? Yes. Is that what they request? No. Most highly selective schools request recs from teachers in core academic subjects. From another thread, I see Penn is one of the schools you are targeting. This is what they say:

If the college accepts add’l recommendations, I’d use the arts teacher as a supplemental rec. If they don’t, and your arts teacher can write the best rec, go ahead and submit. However, you need to be realistic; with a 1310 SAT, Ivy League schools are probably not in your future, so you might want to widen your net.
