My workplace issues bulky, heavy, ugly leather rolling litigation bags. The rolling handle mechanism takes up so much room that there’s not nearly enough space inside to justify the weight. From time to time I’ve looked for substitutes and I’ve never found anything. The litigation bag shape is nice though because the bag is always upright and files can be accessed from the top with one hand. But they are uniformly ugly.

nottelling, I hear you, those litigation bags are ugly. Sigh… I am tired of looking at all the ugliness.

B&R and Tumi make great luggage and fabulous bags (own both brands), but their computer briefcases make the owner look like the person just came off a plane. :(

I think the rolling briefcases that look like carry-on luggage are better looking that the ones that look like a purse glued to a handle. It is the handle mechanism that is so unattractive.

BB – Seems like a perfect business opportunity! The Spanx founder made a gazillion dollars by creating the product she couldn’t find on the market.

Nottelling, it does sound like a niche that could be bettter filled. You bet I’m going to research the issue! since there are moving parts involved, there might be more IP involved in this than in shapewear.

I don’t have any specific recommendations, but I’m wondering if there are specialized gear bags that could work for you. For example, something designed for photographer’s gear? Doubt they’d be cheap, however.

Googled the issue to death this evening - because I’m afraid I wrecked my already bad back even further. Apparently, this is a huge problem for lawyers, (e.g., https://www.americanbar.org/groups/gpsolo/resources/solosez/popular_threads_2010/121610Thread1.html )
so there are some boutique co’s that make rolling briefcases that look like and cost as much as fancy lawyers’ bags. Well, I’m not a lawyer and I have not stayed in a holiday inn lately, so I definitely have no desire to haul anything that makes me look like a lawyer

Thank you all for the tips and ideas! Keep the suggestions coming!

Off to search some more!

Bunsen-- I’ve been looking for the same type of thing–rolling, lightweight, stylish-- to no avail! So, if you find or design one, let me know!

I know what BB would like. The Chanel coco cocoon trolley. :)

All of the rolling bags I see here at work look like smaller carry-on bags. I’ve yet to see anything that looks truly attractive. The only good thing I can say about them is that they’re better than the backpacks. :)

Deborah, LOL!!! That’s exactly the picture that was sent to me by a friend. Boy, that is a seriously ugly bag!

(Here it is, puctured in #2:

<a href=“Chanel Bags Fall 2014 - The Best Chanel Bags from PFW Fall 2014”>http://www.elle.com/_mobile/news/fashion-style/chanel-fall-2014-bags
)

Here’s one for “the deal better be worth it” category.
http://us.louisvuitton.com/eng-us/products/epopee-monogram-idylle-000641

That Louis Vuitton bag is nice looking, but all the compartments make it impractical for lugging lots of papers. Guess I won’t be buying that one. ;-)

Me neither. Besides, I’m not a huge fan of logo fabrics. I came across a lawyer’s blog (can’t post a link per our TOS), where he talks about what kind of briefcase bag a lawyer shall not carry. That LV (or Chanel) is one of the big "no no"s. ;)

My H has a few Tumi bags, which are very durable and well designed…heavy, though. I have a large set of LV, which, again, is heavy.

I just bought two rolling hard case trollies from Delsey that are exceptionally lightweight…the wheels maneuver like a dream and the design is sleek and modern. They actually cost (far) less than the tax on the LV luggage! They probably won’t last forever, but I highly recommend!

Oh, BB, I should probably explain. The Chanel coco cocoon trolley I saw a picture of was on a blog and was an older one (2009 I think?). In the picture, at least, it looked like it had more going for it than the newer one being panned in the Elle article. A different, more attractive shape angling out and back in on the sides, and structured differently at the bottom, etc. Based on a Chanel tote you’d had interest in, in the past and the quilted Hedgren bag you expressed some interest in on this thread, I thought you might have seen that 2009 Chanel bag and were looking for some of those features. Sorry I was unclear!

I’m a lawyer and love my computer backpack (Swiss Army or something like it) with our company logo on it. I don’t need it to roll, though. For IPad only trips I take a Dooney tote.

Gourmetmom, I will keep an eye for those Delsey trolleys, thanks!

Deborah, I think I’ve seen the one you are talking about - on ebay. Nice, but out of my league and most likely does not match my list of desirable features. :)

http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=160989502350

Just before I saw your post, I was looking at the Elle link…

Since it sounds like there are several people interested in finding something like this, I’ll go ahead and mention two more I saw while perusing pages online. I remember there are some Longchamp fans on CC. I have fun doing searches like this. :)

Longchamp boxford weekend trolley and Longchamp boxford business trolley.

http://us.longchamp.com/luggage/boxford/suitcase-wheels-1415080?sku=20684
http://www.sandspointshop.com/luggage-chart.html

^^^I noticed a nice garment bag on the Longchamp link that I’m going to buy. I’ve been looking for a nice garment bag for short weekend car trips. I hate to pack hanging garments in an overnight bag, so if we’re driving, I often use one of those plastic zip up garment bags that come along with nicer items from Saks, etc. I’ve been looking for something for a long time, and this one is perfect! Thanks, Deborah T!

Sorry, have not read the whole thread. Have you tried Wayfair (per my daughter, whom I consider an excellent shopper).
