Im form Bridgeport, CT. I would like a school somewhere on the east coast, maybe a little west.

size of the school is not that important, however, i would like a middle to large size school.
I plan to major in aether Molecular bio, Micro biology, or biochemistry.

so far I am applying early to Uconn as my safety net. Other than that, i have no idea about what schools i should look at, so i was hoping you guys could help me.

Are you a US citizen? Do you need FA?

im not a U.S citizen, but i am a permanent resident (i have a greencard)

Do you need F/A? What is your parents’ income? do you know what your families EFC is and/or how much they can pay for your education?

Very good class ranking!!! I’m hoping  that you spelled “suggest” as “sujest” as teen lingo… :)

Do you go to a public or private school? I’m impressed with the Mandarin Chinese in high school  You’re trilingual :)

Because you would be considered to be a URM, there are many schools that would WANT YOU very much! :)

Are you looking for a full spectrum university or an LAC? A school with a spirited sports program?

I suggest Vanderbilt, Fordham, U Rochester

Unless the OP brings up his test scores significantly, he probably doesn’t have a shot at Vandy. This year’s freshman class’ test scores were very high. I know some URMs that applied and their scores were certainly on par with the applicant pool - 700+ on CR and M. Keep in mind, most URM applicants would be “qualified applicants” without their URM hook. In other words, even your “URM” competition is very fierce.

By the way, F/A is "financial aid. " And URM is “underrepresnted minority” (black, Hispanic, Native American).

While the OP is a URM, not all URMs are created equal. Unless the OP is low income, attends an underserved HS, has faced adversity, etc., they will likely not get much of a bump on their SAT score. And even then, the mid-500s are very low for selective schools as colleges will be concerned that the student will have a very difficult time keeping up with coursework. dwhite is correct, that for selective schools, URM competition is strong and ‘middle class’ URMs will need scores and grades that are up there with the rest of the applicant pool.

yea ill definately need financial aid. My mother makes about 15k a year at most…and my highschool is a public.
I would prefer a large university over a LAC, but like a said, i wouldn’t mind attending aether.
BTW thanks for everyone that has replied, and mom2collegekids, i didn’t really think i was special, just reading your post made me feel good =).

^^^

:)

Private schools will want the financial info from both parents. Publics typically will only use your mom’s income since she has custody. Does she receive child support for you from your father?

Even though you are probably low income, I’m not sure where you can go outside of your state that won’t leave you with some student loan debt.

If you can bring your scores up significantly, then a school that meets 100% need WITHOUT loans would be good for you. …(Does anyone on the board have a list of such schools??? I know that Vandy and some ivies do)

Since Vandy is likely too much of a reach, you might have better luck with Fordham, U Rochester, Miss St

Thanks alot

why not try Clemson University?
