My daughter made a 6 on the ACT Essay. She has a 35 composite. She wasn’t expecting to use her ACT score and didn’t prep - so she wrote an essay more like what the SAT requires and didn’t do the counter-argument thing. She doesn’t want to take the ACT again and she is a decent if not spectacular writer. Will her essays and AP English grades be enough to prove to colleges that she can write, or should she send more proof? Her SAT was a 2210 with a 760 in writing and a 9 on the essay and she got a 780 in the English Language Subject Test which had an essay. For the more selective colleges she is applying to - would it make sense to send those scores as well? … or is it even important?

Send both scores… I don’t think colleges care as much about the ACT writing as the SAT writing.

Thank you, I really needed someone to tell me to do it. I think it might relieve some concerns? and I guess it can’t really hurt.

It probably won’t make or break her chances. As long as everything else is fine I don’t see why that would be deal-breaker

I do not think colleges care much about the ACT essay, but they probably have a little consideration based on that grade.
