Can college admission officers see my youtube channel name, comments, and search history?

Hi, this is my first time posting on these forums. I help other people in the comments section to modify Nerf blasters. Sorry for this stupid question.

Admissions counselors don’t generally have time to do social media searches.

Hopefully you didn’t use your real name!

Nerf gun modifying sounds like a good essay

Not your search history; they’re not the NSA. But certainly they can look at your FB, YT, twitter, etc.although it’s highly unlikely they will.

So how does one modify nerf blasters, anyway?

If one were the first to publish, that would have been an awesome EC to list on an app.

Not my real name I forgot to put that

Basically, you open up a Nerf blaster with screwdrivers. It’s easier for spring powered blasters than flywheels, which are electronically powered. You can replace parts with aftermarket parts, which are high quality. For spring blasters, you can hammer out the air restrictors and replace the spring with a stronger one, but the priming will be tougher. For flywheels, you can to replace the motors, motor cages and rewire the blasters. You will see significantly higher ranges than in unmodified form.

Maybe not college admissions, but almost assuredly future employers will look into your background which will include looking at your social media FB, Twitter, etc.

Try searching yourself. If you dont want to be exposed, don’t leave a trail.

Or, better yet, don’t do anything that a future employer or college would have an issue with.

No. They’re not the FBI. They don’t have subpoena power.

If your name is easily Googlable, they might if you give them a reason to, but if your social media accounts are locked down so only friends/connections can see what you’re doing (which you should do anyway) then they can’t hack the planet and see what silly things you’re worried about them seeing.

I doubt AOs check applicants’ activities on social media unless they believe there’s a reason to do so. That being said, it’s up to you to guard your personal privacy. Even though there’s no absolute privacy in today’s world, kids these days seem to reveal too much about themselves on social media, and some of them will regret it someday.

What you and your friends do – making crank calls and whatever else you mentioned in your other thread – will be reflected in your LORs. Not specifics, of course, but your general character. Teachers and counselors are pretty good at judging which students are goof offs and which aren’t. Being successful in college requires a certain level of maturity and your app has to show you’re ready for the challenge. I think most colleges know if students are a fit from the application, LORs, ECs, and essays, so they don’t have any reason to check social media. I don’t know about future employers.
