Can credits from a non degree seeking student be used if the student decides to get a degree?

If a person does part time community college, and enrolls as a non credit seeking student ,but if they decide they want a degree and they have the credit they earned as a non degree seeking student, could they use it ?

You used two different terms which have very different definitions. “Non-degree seeking” refers to a student who has not enrolled in a program that leads to a degree. Such a student still earns credits for the courses that they took, but those courses cannot be used to obtain a degree because the student is not enrolled in a program that leads to a degree. Another term that is bandied about in this regard is, “non-matriculated”. When a student is enrolled in a program that leads to a degree, they are referred to as, ‘matriculated’.

The above is very different from, “Non-credit seeking”, where a student enrolls in a course, but does not receive credit for the course on their transcript. This is sometimes referred to as ‘Continuing Education’ or ‘Training Education’, where the goal is to gain a new skill without earning academic credit that could count toward a degree.

Do you have a transcript that shows credits and grades for the courses you have taken? If so, then you can get that transcript evaluated once you have matriculated at a college. They will tell you which courses can be applied to a degree.

If your transcript does not show credits and grades for courses you have taken, then you did not earn credit for those courses, and they cannot be applied toward a degree.
