Can Financial Aid Office find out from IRS how much you made last year?

Can Financial Aid Office find out from IRS how much you made last year?

I declared that I and my father made $0 last year and planning to say that we are not required to file 2005 tax since we made less than $10,000. How does this work? Any advice would be appreciated.

So did you and your father actually make $0 last year, or is that just what you reported on your financial aid? I would think they would be able to find out through Social Security matches if there were any wages/funds paid to you through W-2 forms, 1099’s, etc.

If you actually made $0 you shouldn’t have anything to worry about…

You’re supposed to put how much you actually earned. There’s another option to tell them if you will not file. And yes, they can check through W-2s and 1099s…

I’d go make a correction very soon.

If you actually made 0 you wouldn’t be asking this question, ya know?

The answer is yes, they can find out.
