can freshman have a car?

i heard most schools prohibit freshman from having a car.

my graduation present if i achieve some sort of merit aid into the college i choose to go to (neu being first choice WHOOHOO!!!) is a car…

so… please tell me that they allow freshman to have a car… i really want to bring it as i have friends in different parts of MA that i would like to visit occasionally.

thanks,

I don’t know that the school prohibits it but there is no parking. You can visit most every area of MA by T or a combination of T and commuter rail. If you end up at NEU a car will not be a good graduation present.

Limited on-campus parking is available to students; however, if you want to keep your car on campus, you would need both a day permit and an overnight permit and freshmen are not allowed overnight permits. From NEU’s housing web page:

More information about on-campus parking (permits, fees etc) is also available on their website:

Boston is one of the worst cities to have a car in (I’d guess second only to Manhattan). Many locals don’t have cars. Boston has a great public transportation system, and no car is necessary.

If you do get into Northeastern, please re-think any plans to bring a car.

agreed… car is a bad idea
i dont know a single freshman or sophmore who has/wants one
even people who live off campus take the T

The T is where it’s at.

You’d do better to ask for a T-pass every month instead of the car. :p

haha, if you value your life, you should never drive in boston. but really, the T is probably the best public transportation in the country and is very accessible, so there’s no need for a car.
