Can I add a letter of recommendation after the deadline (MIT Application)?

I am ready to submit my application to MIT, but I realized I forgot my supplemental recommendation request. It is winter break and my recommender won’t be back until 2nd week of January to school and it appears he’s away from emails for the time being.

Can I add recommenders to my application after the deadline and I presumably submit?

Yes you can. If it reaches just a few days late MIT will likely consider it, but it’s up to them.

Is there a button the portal to do that? If so, I can rest assured.

You should add them in the recommenders section of Common App, and I believe they’ll receive a link to submit the LoR.

MIT is not on Common App. I’m just wondering if the submitted MIT Application portal allows this. Thank you so far for your input btw.

I’m not sure you can request a supplemental LoR after you have submitted the app…have you already submitted? From the MIT page:

You will be able to request recommendations in your MIT application portal. You can request these letters at any point before submitting your application, but we recommend sending the request as soon as you have determined who you would like to ask so that they have as much time as possible to write about you!

You can call admissions and ask them if they will accept it, and how to send it (assuming it’s not obvious on your portal). The good news is that most applicants don’t submit a supplemental LoR…probably because they don’t often add much beyond the two required teacher LoRs and the counselor LoR. Good luck.

Sorry my bad. I should have said MIT’s app, not Common App. Mental lapse :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

My daughter did submit a supplemental LOR, but it was before she submitted her app, not after. This was a few years ago, not current cycle, but I assume the app still allows you to do that.

Returned from submission. You can indeed edit LoRs.
