Can I afford otterbein?

Will I be able to afford otterbein with an EFC of $0? What would the soffits ability be in comparison to Ohio state?

*affordability

Run the Net Price Calculator on their web site. See what it says.

What are your stats? DSS16 applied to both, and with his stats, both schools were comparable.

Not sure where exactly you live now, but there appears to be an additional grant if you will graduate from a high school in the Westerville, Whitehall, Southwestern, or Columbus City that may make Otterbein more affordable than tOSU for sure. This did not affect DSS16, but had we resided there, Otterbein would have been less by about 6k.

Run the Net price calculator. Show the results to your parents. Ask them what they can afford - is it $0? Count what you have - parents’ contribution or lack thereof, part time job earnings, summer job earnings. Does that cover the Otterbein net price?

Or: tell us

  • NPC result
  • parents’ contribution or lack thereof, part time job earnings, summer job earnings

and we’ll help with the computation

Congratulations! Absolutely, run NPC. Also remember certain majors have programs and/or additional fees. Equine, MT, theatre stand out but there are others. So if you decide to share results, let us know major as well…

After doing the financial aid estimator it says my out of pocket cost will be 9,367 dollars for otterbein. My parents are very low on money and won’t be able to contribute anything because we essentially live pay check to pay check and my mom isn’t working much anymore. I have a part time job and have about 500 dollars saved up. I will be working until I go to college in the fall. I could maybe save up a thousand dollars if I work hard enough. @imwiththeband @MYOS1634 @ohiomom36

What are your stats?
Can you run the NPC on Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Allegheny, and Mulhenberg?

Rather than “out of pocket” costs, look at the line with “net costs”. What does it say?

@MYOS1634 there is no npc on otterbein. Or I can’t find it anyway.

I did that already and the out of pocket cost said about 9,000 @LVKris

And compare results.

You need to look at what is included in the financial aid from each school. Is the Pell grant included? The full Stafford loans? Any Perkins loans or Parent Plus loans?

Make sure you are comparing the same things, not just ‘net out of pocket’ to you. You should also talk to the school before rejecting any school because another seems better. They might have some other types of aid. Is there any Ohio state aid that you can use at any school?
