Can I Apply ED I AND ED II?

For example:
Cornell’s Early Decision notification, according to their website, is in “mid-December”. The deadline for Emory University’s Early Decision II (still binding, just another round of ED applicants a little after the initial round-some schools offer this, some don’t) is January 1.
Could I apply to Cornell via ED, and if not accepted, apply to Emory University via ED II since there is time (although brief) between the ED notification of Cornell, and the deadline of Emory University’s ED II applications? And if I got deferred at Cornell, I could still apply to Emory via ED II, right? Does ED II involve sending supplements of first semester senior year grades since it’s later than normal ED?

Thanks.

Yes, you can apply both EDI and EDII to two different schools (assuming the first does not accept you.) As you noticed, the timing can be quite tight and there is work required to submit the EDII application. You, your parent and GC will all need to sign off on the EDII agreement after the ED I decision comes in. The timing of that can be tricky because your school may already be on break for the winter, so talk with your GC about it well in advance. Your GC will also want to send a new transcript and that will likely include your grades through the fall semester. Think also about what you would do if your EDI school defers you. You would still have a shot at that school in the RD round.

Thanks!!!
