Can I apply to community college two years in advance?

I want to go to columbia college but in my country, Men 18-22 have to serve the army for 2 years. Like to know if I can “reserve” a spot in a cc w/ a dorm, 2 years in advance. Thanks

I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t know. I think you could defer for one year, but that’s not two years. I would try to get a hold of their admissions staff and explain your situation, and get their opinion on what your best course of action would be.

In the States, anyone can get into a community college. You can apply, be accepted, and start attending classes within days. The dorms go largely unused.

Obviously you do not live in the States, so the rules may very well be different. Where are you from?

I am from singapore. In my country, men have to serve the NS (national services- army, Air Force, navy) for 2 years. I’ve done my ged and sats(2k) but uni is way too expensive. Totally new to the American system. I do not have any other education besides(sat&ged)because I dropped out from my high secondary school in singapore

Is this Columbia College in Sonora, California? If so, I’m about 99.999% sure they won’t accept an application two years out. I’ve been able to enroll in California community college classes just a few days ahead of time.

Your international status and housing might complicate things, so I’d get a hold of Columbia College about six months ahead of time and tell them of your intentions.

Is it easy to get in for an international student?
What’s a good community college with dorms?
I want to get a transfer degree in psychology and then transfer to a uni

Community colleges in my state (Illinois) are not allowed to have dorms, strictly speaking. However, most hire a private contractor to build apartments directly across the street, and only rent to students. I am not sure of what the community colleges in CA are like, but I imagine very similar.

You may want to reconsider community college. While inexpensive, it is very difficult for mature, studious students to enjoy their time there, because a majority of the students are simply there to scam the system, or don’t strive to make decent grades. Just a thought.

I am only 18 haha I have to serve my national service next year for 2 years so ill be in cc when I am 22. Wouldn’t say I am immature but I wouldn’t say I’m matured. Reason why i want to go to a cc is because 4-year colleges are super expensive and I desperately need an education. In my country(singapore) there honestly isnt much you can do without a good education.( emphasis on good) anyway Thanks for your opinion anyway! Means a lot!!

Ryan, after two years of serving your countrycI am sure gou will be a lot more mature than many 22 yr olds! I think it is awesome you are so proactive about getting an education. Best of luck :D

Thanks so muchh! have a great day!

Very true.

I don’t know how easy it is for international students to get into a California community college, but I certainly know international students who have attended them. You should email the CC you’re interested in and ask.

Columbia College in Sonora has the private dorms that were mentioned previously.

I would think Community Colleges as a whole are a harbor for international students. The community college I’m at now has tons of programs just to get international students there. I have classes with people from Thailand, Beijing, Costa Rica etc.
