Many many thanks!

The title of your blog/inquiry seems odd to me. Can you apply-you know the answer. You have strong stats, EC’s. Is it a match/reach/safety/yada yada…You have worked hard, and deserve to be looking at top schools to see which ones offer the courses, environ, and campus environ you want for your college experience. Does Northwestern fit that criterion for you? If so, apply. ED will give you an edge for obvious reason. But, you only get one ED—do you want it to be Northwestern? Then GO FOT IT!

APOL

You can apply, but you won’t guarantee getting in.

That being said, you have decent stats. Go for it.

The best answer to your question would be from your school guidance counselor. Do kids from your school with your type of courses, grades, class rank and test scores get into top 20 school, NW, in particular? If the answer, is that it does not happen often, then you know that you had better look at some schools that are more in your match range coming from your school.

Bear in mind that the top schools are a reach for even the top students. I know kids who were turned down by NW, Wash U and such from the Chicago area that were truly top students with nearly perfect grades. Yes, they had every chance of acceptance, but it just did not work out for them.

Even if your chances look good when you see a number of kids from your high school accepted by top schools with your profile, you should have some schools that fit your needs, that you like that are less selective. That is the true Holy Grail of the college search: finding a safety that you like very much, that fits your requirements. Cherry picking from top 20 lists, anyone can do.
