Can I be a IT manager with MFE instead of a MBA?

Undergrad: CS
Grad: MFE

Is it possible?

Yes, it is possible. To be manager, you dont need MBA. There are lots of top gun managers and CEO who have the engineering background and dont have mba.

Jack Welch (GE CEO), Steve Wozniak (big guy at Apple), Tony Hayward (CEO BP), Ginny the CEO of IBM, etc…all of them have engineering background and dont have mba.

Learn the ropes of managing people while you are learning the technical aspects of the job. Read a lot books, magazine articles about managing people. And when you have been promoted as supervisor or line manager, learn how to manage your subordinates properly.

Managing is an art and some people need school like mba to learn it while others learn by fly on the job. As your career progresses you will eventually will learn to manage people.

I hope this will help you and by the way what is MFE?..

Why would you want to be a manager?

MFE means Master in Financial Engineering.
Why would I want to be manager? Well, if being a MFE wouldn’t work out. I would like a second option. A “safety net” if you will.
