I got accepted in University of West Florida and based on my own ignorance I didn’t do enough research of the surrounding area of that University. I couldn’t go on a college tour because my parents are way too busy to bring me to any college tours so everything I do is based on research. I wasn’t expecting to get accepted into ANY university’s but when I got accepted into UWF I got really excited and accepted right away coming to the conclusion that I wouldn’t be accepted elsewhere anyways. After accepting I did my research about the area which is Pensacola. And the rate for crimes was unbelievably, the lack of diversity and the fact that it’s called the “DEEP SOUTH” scares me and makes me question if I want to go somewhere where I won’t feel safe. Anyways, I applied for FGCU as well, do you think they can reject me if they find out I’ve accepted another university? How do they find out? Say FGCU accepts me, I release UWF and change my mind, can FGCU in turn reject me? Any replies are appreciated.
Of course not. Ppl get accepted at multiple schools all the time. Even after accepting UWFs offer, you can change your mind. Let them know asap. Other schools aren’t going to care. They want to admit you (and your tuition, of course)
UWF doesn’t offer early decision, so I assume you were admitted until rolling admission or early action in which case you are free to accumulate as many offers of admission as you like. If you accepted somewhere, you still change your mind. Students who are waitlisted at schools accept an offer and then back out if they later get admitted to their first choice, so this isn’t unusual or considered ‘wrong.’ At many schools, you can’t apply for housing without accepting, but if you wait until you get your offers in April, there won’t be any on campus housing left. Many students accept the offer knowing that they will potentially lose their deposit in order to be assured of on campus housing if nothing better comes through.
Long answer there. Short answer: No problem. You’re fine.
- You need to visit UWF. Make up your own mind what you think of the school.
- You will be able to get out of your commitment but you almost certainly won’t be getting any $ back, if you had to pay a deposit of some sort.
- One step at a time. Take a deep breath. It will all play out in the next few months for you.
Thank you everyone
You’ve put my mind at ease.
