I’m all new to this scholarship thing and a got a scholarship check for 3,500 dollars and it is under my name. It also says payable for a tuition scholarship to attend The Art Institution of Atlanta. I was wondering if i can use some of this money for something else?
If the scholarship was awarded to pay tuition…you really should be using it to pay tuition to this school!
I know I’m not saying i was gonna use all the money on games and clothes and all that stupid stuff, I’m just asking if i can use a small amount of that money for better art supplies
So can i or not??
No. It is for your tuition. Contact the Art Institution and ask them how you should deposit it. Depending on how it is written, you may just need to sign it over to them.
Since you got this scholarship, and don’t have to spend that amount of your own money on tuition, then you should have a bunch of your own money left over for supplies, right?
No im 15 and dont have a job nor a car
Will you be attending that Art institute? If not you, and your parents, risk being charged with fraud.
what are you talking about?
It was the 16th Annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students in Georgia.
If you are not attending the Art institute of Atlanta and cash the check it is fraud. If you are attending and your parents are paying your tuition then it will be OK to cash the check.
Im gonna use it when i attend
They already made it clear to me
So i have to call them and ask them how i should deposit it cause i cant keep it for 2 years since im in 10th grade?
Isnt it illegal to keep it without telling them?
My guess is that it’s not really a check you deposit, but a “discount coupon” you can use if you enroll there.
However, given how much they charge for tuition, you will be better off getting your degree from a lower-cost state school. There are lots of other threads on CC about for-profit art schools. I just googled and the Art Institute of Atlanta has a 14% graduation rate in 4 years and a 23% graduation rate over 6 years. Buyer beware!
really but why
interesting
but if i dont go there, what will happen with the scholarship i got?
It won’t be used by you.
alright i understand now.
It’s really not a “scholarship” - it’s a marketing ploy. The institution in question is run by a for-profit company. They have lots of special deals at this link - https://www.artinstitutes.edu/atlanta/tuition-aid/scholarships
This is a brief and older article but it points out the difference between non-profit and for-profit art schools:
