SAT

to (minimum)

650 Math

550 Writing

I just want to go to the University of Washington. I’m a first generation student, in-state, 3.974 GPA, Tennis Varsity 4 years, etc.

But I just want to know if I can improve my SAT over the summer to reach my goals.

UW Middle 50%
Math: 560-670
Reading: 530-650
Writing (they don’t care as much): 520-620 or something, I forget.

I just need to improve my reading, only section that’s below the middle 50%.

I have these books to work with:

Direct Hits Toughest Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 2
Direct Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 1
Barron’s SAT 2400: Aiming for the Perfect Score
Critical Reading Workbook for the SAT

Alright.
The 2400 book is good for long passages. Use their strategy. It’ll definitely help you out.
The Direct Hits books are good for vocab, so great pick on those.

I personally think you need to buy a couple of more books. CR is the hardest to raise up whilst Writing is generally the easiest, followed by math.
With that being said, I think you can improve your Math even more. To do so, get the Gruber’s 2009 book. It has a Math refresher section in there that is amazing. Go through the book thoroughly and analyze any mistakes made. Make sure you have that book and strategies down pat.

Then, get the BB (College board official’s book; it’s blue.)
It has 8 practice tests in it.
This is the key. Do NOT use practice tests from any other books you have bought. They are simply a waste of time. The SAT is a predictable test, and you can learn how the test works by doing these 8 practice tests and fully analyzing ANY mistakes you have made. By honestly understanding how to improve your errors you make on those tests, your score will increase significantly.

For writing, memorize the grammar rules. It is fairly easy and you can hit 700’s easily doing that.

If you memorize the vocab from direct hits, do the CR methods from 2400, Math for Grubers, and all 8 of the BB practice tests AND the two free online ones found on the collegeboard website, you will blow that score out of the water IN ONE SUMMER.

Good luck, work hard, don’t let it consume your life. It’s only one test.

Wow Zupchurch, that’s great advice. Thanks.

Completely agree with zupchurch about critical reading.
and yes, collegeboard’s tests are basically reiterations of past tests…just different questions. memorize the way the create their questions and look for the answers. after all, they’re all right in front of you. (cept for math grid in hehe ^>^)
good luck.

The Critical Reading Workbook I mentioned is also written by Barron.

Will the strategies be the same as the ones in the 2400 Barron’s SAT book (reading sections).
