Can I draw from a previous essay

I have been assigned a critical essay in a literature class. I have chosen to write a poem I have previously written about. In order for me to establish my arguments, I feel that certain elements from my previous work are critical to the case I want to build in the final essay. To what extent is it acceptable to draw from my previous writings?

You can’t completely copy + paste (plagiarism) any content from previous work, but a portion with quotes are acceptable with proper referencing of the same. But in this case, if you have the work done before with you, I strongly suggest you to take points from that work and create a unique final essay of your own.

If you have the elements from previously done work, then definitely it will not take tool long for you to come up with a fresh essay compared to the title we usually spend on any essay. So make use of that possible option before you and shorten any chance of being quote in the way of writing your essay.
