Hi all, I’m currently a senior and will be taking my last SAT in October. I have been studying relatively extensively (memorizing some words, taking practice tests, etc.), but am not sure whether or not I will be able to get my desired score of 2200+. My Single SAT scores as of right now is 2120 (600 CR 740 M 780 W) from June. My practice tests so far have been around a 2100-2150 range (assuming i get a 9 or 10 essay, since i got an 11 on the actual one). However, I have been taking these tests under less than ideal conditions (super tired after school, xc practice, and maybe gym workout). I know that my main focus should be on CR (Reading comp mostly, not vocab), but is there anything else i can use? I’m using Barrons and Barrons 2400 to study and some Blue Book tests that I still have left. Do i still have a chance at a 2200? Really want to get into UC Berkeley for MCB :). Thanks!

What’s you intended major? With high GPA and good EC, it’s still reachable.

coolkat,

Since your lowest score is in the CR section, you have to ask yourself what the specific problem is. Do you lose most of your points in the short passage, the long section, or the paired passage? Or do you have one type of reading passage, say the prose fiction passage, that affects your score the most? You need to study the practice tests you have already taken to see precisely where you are losing the most points and work on that.

It is important to remember that everything you need to know is contained within the passage, no outside knowledge is tested. Everything you are asked is in the reading. Of course you will be asked to interpret the information, but it is all there. Target your practice to your weaknesses.

i agree with pmian57. you should make an analysis on the score report of your CR and find your weakness in reading comprehension. and dont overlook the vocab part. since u think u have no problem with vocab, please do ur best to ensure you get the full score of this part which is 420 solely.

Thanks for the feedback guys! My UC GPA is 3.8 UW and 4.38 W. Yeah i’m pretty sure its the long passages that get me and its usually NOT the questions with line numbers (inferences mess me up). Yeah i’ve been trying to not overanalyze what the author says but idk its still difficult (AP English habit). Also, My ACT is a 33 and i only took 1.5 practice tests before taking the actual thing (MUCH less studying than SAT). I still want to get the 2200+ on SAT b/c I feel as tho colleges see it as more of an accomplishment (even tho a 33 is technically equivalent to a 2200).

You do have rooms in all 3 sections for improvement, so you do have a great chance to achieve 2200+ at least in super scoring.
