can i get a college to take me back after i've withdrawn?

help! i was between 2 colleges (wellesley and berkeley) and ultimately chose wellesley. i would be a political science major and my reasoning was that humanities is more of an emphasis at wellesley. there is also a more supportive administration, better endowment, good network, and honestly it’s probably a better fit. but since may 1 (decision day) i’ve been feeling intense regret and feelings of uncertainty. i know that this is partially expected after such a big decision but i can’t stop thinking that i made the wrong choice. i now feel that i really do want the berkeley experience (co-ed, big, different from my east coast childhood, etc)

HOWEVER, the day that i committed to wellesley, i withdrew from berkeley. they have already taken some people off the waitlist.

my question is:
is there any way that they would take me back?

Oy, vey.

Just go to Wellesley. It is a great school with a great polisci dept and you will have a great time.

They probably would. Just ask.

As far as I am concerned Wellesley is a much superior school to Berkeley. I guarantee you if you try to do this, you will have the exact same regret. Your logic is sound for choosing Wellesley. You have given zero reasons why Berkeley is better.

The biggest downside of Wellesley is that people sometimes confuse it with Wesleyan. Other than that, no reason not to stick with your decision.

Lots of students have “buyers remorse” after making that college decision.

Wellesley is a terrific college…and presumably you had good reasons for choosing it.

You can call Berkeley and ask. But in my opinion, you should go to Wellesley and stop over-thinking things. You made a well thought out decision to attend a great school so stick to it.

I get the impression that there is a bigger scenario going on than whether Wellesley or Berkeley is the better fit. This is the first “grown up” decision you probably have ever made and it is reasonable to second-guess yourself. They’re both great schools, but just keep telling yourself that there is a reason (or many) why you chose Wellesley in the first place. At the end of the day, there most likely is no “right” or “wrong” place for you. There really are few decisions we have to make in life that are definitively right or wrong. But if you discover that Wellesley really is the wrong place, then transfer. This is not a life-or-death decision. But, I imagine once you get settled in at Wellesley, you are going to have the time of your life. Best wishes to you! (BTW, the ability to make an informed decision and stick with it is a great skill to develop … it will serve you well in life.)
