can I get accepted to wharton?

I feel like wharton’s concentration in marketing communication is a perfect fit for me, and the overall caliber of the school’s business education is something that I would love to take advantage of. But I want to know if I have any chance of getting in regular decision, or if it is just safer applying to CAS. I know that my extracurricular experience does not demonstrate a strong interest in business, but I genuinely am passionate about the idea of studying at wharton and I plan to show that in my Penn supplement essay
(on a sidenote, CAS already accepted three students from my school- which is fairly small…senior class is around 180 people - and I know that a few more are applying there RD)

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

Work Experience:
spent three summers working as a secretary for my dad’s dental laboratory

I have also been a professional ballet dancer for ten years, and have won many international competitions in the US and Germany. I have received scholarships to attend prestigious ballet summer programs and year-round professional ballet schools in Florida, New York City, Munich Germany, and Moscow Russia. I plan to submit the Arts Supplement to Penn in order to showcase my talents and achievements in ballet.

…so, do I stand a chance of getting in?

it’s not a sure-in but your first generation thing is a huge wild card. I suggest you attend a presentation by your regional admissions rep and talk to him/her about your experience in Ballet and perhaps transition to how you believe in adding intangible value, etc. That would make a strong, original, lasting impression.

thank you for the advice! and technically my parents DID recieve associates degrees at a local college in Ukraine…but i’m the first generation to pursue a professional undergrad degree in my family.

any other thoughts as to if I stand a chance?

yea you definitely have a chance
you’re GPA and your ballet dancing aspect is especially impressive
however, your weaknesses are your SAT2’s and extracurriculas

I wouldn’t say extra curriculars is weak at all. Penn probably gets a ton of Presidents of this, starter of that club, etc etc. 10 years of professional ballet is pretty impressive and UNIQUE. We all know the Ivy’s who love to suck in unique students. I think that colleges like dedication and passion more than a smattering of stuff.
