Hey guys. So I’m kind of in a bad place right now, mentally, and as a result, my grades have been suffering. I’m really struggling with school. I’ve tried all nighters studying, getting a full 8 hours of sleep, getting 10 hours, cramming the period before, cramming the night before, reviewing every night, studying alone, studying with music, studying with silence, study groups, etc. I’ve tried everything I can think of to do better, but nothing seems to be working. Even if I finish a test feeling confident I did well, I get it back only to see a score lower than the last. I can’t get a tutor for personal reasons. Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I need to finish off the semester with all As. Is this realistic? We’re halfway through and we still have finals. Obviously this semester is worse than last semester, but even last semester I finished with one B. Is it possible to bring my grades back up?
They are as follows:
Honors English: 87.62%
Honors Algebra 2 & Trigonometry: 83.27%
Orchestra: 92.83%
PE: 92.86%
Honors Biology: 80.91%
AP Human Geography: 80.96%
Spanish 2: 94.62%
Current W GPA: 4.0 (4.5?)
Current UW GPA: 3.4 (4.0?)
Maybe you’re pushing too hard on yourself and the stress is just overwhelming. I’ve personally experienced this when my grades slipped slightly last year in my freshman year. What I did was I focused on one subject at a time…just trying to get a high enough score on each individual assignment. I grabbed any extra credit opportunity I had and that raised my grade up. Are you classes manageable enough? I understand it’s too late to drop out into an easier class, but that could’ve been a choice earlier in the semester. That’s what saved me from getting a B. There’s still a chance of earning all A’s - when finals come around, concentrate on a single subject and try to study only for that one. Once you feel confident that you know the material, give yourself a break and do something fun for a change. Then, move on to the next subject. Don’t think much about your grades because that’s just going to stress you out more.
Bump
I am kinda in the same position as you but my grades are around B+ in only two subjects. I knew my grades were stressing me out each time I saw them so I just started doing well on assignments for one class and doing well in projects and for another I am actually starting to study for it. I think it is working for me for now. Don’t think about grades, and talk to your friends to see how they can help you. It is actually quite stressful second semester so think about doing well on finals when time comes near. Also see if your teachers can help. It is kind of a nerdy thing to do and you feel it is a time commitment but once you go often to them they will create a liking for you and maybe bias but they start grading easy on you. This is just my opinion but might not work for everyone.
I think you MIGHT be able to (also your schedule looks just like mine last year except for the language and orchestra - do you go to Centennial? haha).
If you’re really committed to doing this, the first rule is taking care of yourself. Eat well, sleep well, and be kind to yourself.
HuG and Bio will be your highest priorities. Every night when you get home, start with those classes. Even if you don’t have homework, there’s something you can do. Finals are closer than you think, so you could even start reviewing now. Ask your teachers for extra credit if possible, because you would need to make a perfect 100 in the class from here on out to get a 90 (not counting finals) without recovery.
Math is your next priority. If you have the time, ask your teacher (or a classmate) if you can meet up to review any concepts you don’t understand. Do ALL your homework. This is imperative. If homework is 10% of your grade and you do half of it, the highest you can make in that class is a 95 if you do everything else perfectly. If you’re about halfway through the semester, you need an average of 97 to make an A in the class (not counting finals).
English will be your easiest class to bring up, but don’t slack off! Ideally you should be up to an A before finals, but if that’s not feasible - ask your teacher what will be on the final.
Overall rules: Study with intent. DON’T just sit down with a textbook and read. Have a goal, a question or a standard that you want to achieve by the end of your session. 30 minutes at 95% concentration is better than an hour at 50% concentration.
Tips: Annotating a text is a great way to really learn material - if you can’t write in your textbook (most high schoolers can’t), use sticky notes to summarize each section and flags to identify vocabulary words. Then use the sticky notes to write out your study notes.
Good luck! If you need help, don’t be shy! You can message me at creativediscord.■■■■■■■■■■ if you want ![]()
Do you have Mrs. Cowan if you do go to Centennial?
@awesomepolyglot @OneNormalKnight
I don’t go to Centennial, sorry.
Whoops lol
Your schedule is actually really similar to mine, too O.o
It’s also almost identical to that of my friend who lives in Virginia Beach. Spooky.
I guess that must be a pretty standard schedule.
